Overview

Consider joining the Pennex family as a Maintenance Planner at our Wellsville, PA location.

 

The Maintenance Planner improves work force productivity and work quality by eliminating potential delays and obstacles in advance. This is accomplished through proper planning and coordination of parts, machine time and labor. The Planner is responsible for the planning and scheduling of all maintenance work performed in the area they are assigned. The Planner liaises and coordinates between operations and maintenance, updates records and files to permit meaningful analysis and reporting of results or work done.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the principal contact between the Maintenance department and the plant.
  • Receives all work orders from requesting departments with the exception of emergency work.
  • Reviews and screens each work order for completion. Discusses the details with the requestor as needed.
  • Ensures that the work requested is needed and scheduled promptly when determined as necessary.
  • Reviews jobs that are requested and determines the best way to accomplish the work. Consults with requester, Maintenance Supervisor, Engineering or functional crews when necessary.
  • Obtains blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, as needed.
  • Makes any additional sketches, diagrams, etc., necessary to clarify the intent of the work.
  • Identifies and obtains determined materials and critical items; enters material needs on the work order.
  • Ensures safety requirements are given top priority in maintenance planning.
  • Estimates jobs with the sequence of steps, the number of tradespersons, and required labor hours for each step; estimates cost of each work order in terms of direct labor, materials required and total cost.
  • Maintains backlog files of work orders awaiting planning and/or scheduling in accordance with their priority limits with an estimated completion date.
  • Verifies the availability of parts, materials and special tools required for job prior to scheduling.
  • Has up-to-date knowledge of each department’s preventative maintenance workload.
  • Reviews the schedule and labor availability forecasts daily.
  • Develops a maintenance work schedule for the maintenance area supervisor.
  • Attends meetings with the Operations Planning department and participates in the overall plant scheduling of the following week’s work; negotiates for downtime “windows” during which maintenance can be performed.
  • Finalizes schedules, balances the work scheduled with labor hours that are available, ensuring that a full day’s work is provided each person.
  • Recommends equipment needed for preventive maintenance programs.
  • Coordinates requisition of all predetermined parts, materials, and special tools. Ensures that equipment scheduled for maintenance is available and ready.
  • Arranges any safety inspection, fire, and standby watch.
  • Issues approved schedules together with relevant work orders and other planning documents to area supervisors.
  • Delivers completed schedules and work orders at the proper time. Reviews completed schedules and work orders submitted. Monitors work order progress.
  • Provides all documents for reporting and closeout.
  • Schedules weekly meetings with the operations and maintenance supervisors to discuss the schedule and short-term projections for maintenance needs.
  • Develops a file of standard job plans for regularly recurring repairs.
  • Reviews the actual labor expenditures versus estimated labor and material used for completed jobs with Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Assists Maintenance and Operations management in analyzing costs; recommends corrective action needed to reduce maintenance costs.
  • Makes recommendations for system improvements.
  • Maintains necessary records and prepares accurate control reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Will Have: 

 

Education  

  • Required: High school diploma or GED
  • Desired: Technical or Trade Degree or Certificate

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in welding, manufacturing, or fabrication setting
  • Previous experience in project management or project coordination preferr
  • A mechanical and electrical background is required

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

  • Adequate trade knowledge to estimate labor hours, materials and visualize job execution
  • Possesses good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain/update files and systems (CMM)
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry  
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions 
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables 
  • Proficient in the MS Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Performs work that is detail orientated, organized, and proactive for planning 
  • Able to read bluprints and diagrams; possesses the ability to draw outlines or sketches
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen 
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, visa sponsorships are not available
  •  Regular attendance is required

  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat.
