Overview

Consider joining Pennex as a Building Maintenance Technician at our Wellsville, PA location. The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving building systems, utilities, and infrastructure in a heavy industrial aluminum extrusion and casting manufacturing environment. This role supports safe, efficient, and uninterrupted plant operations by ensuring facilities, utilities, and site systems meet operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Plant Infrastructure

  • Paints gas lines throughout the plant and roof area; paints exhaust fans that are on the roof.
  • Paints and maintains outside walls of the plant building, offices, breakrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, and common areas.
  • Repaints or touches up paint lines throughout the plant including dock area and speed bumps.
  • Maintains exterior grounds, roadways, drainage systems, fencing, and parking areas by repairing cracks in concrete, damaged siding, downspouts, soffits, gutters, and roof drains, etc.
  • Repairs or replaces doors and tinted panels in charge bay that have been damaged.
  • Pumps out dross dock and manholes.
  • Cleans gutters and downspouts; Cleans cobwebs and debris from lights, rafters, and walls.
  • Maintains a safe environment. Ensures all lighting is working and bulbs have been changed as needed; responsible for housekeeping audits; removes snow and salts sidewalks and entryway areas.

 

Utility Systems

  • HVAC, ventilation, and dust/fume extraction systems supporting extrusion presses, casting furnaces, and finishing operations.
  • Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic issues related to building and facility systems.
  • Responds quickly to facility breakdowns that may impact casting, extrusion, or downstream operations.
  • Performs welding, fabrication, carpentry, and general repair work as required.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Executes preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend asset life.
  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities in CMMS or maintenance logs.
  • Assists in identifying reliability improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintains parts inventory and is willing to drive to suppliers/stores when needed to purchase them.
  • Sorts and keeps an organized inventory of parts.

Safety, Environmental, & Compliance

  • Follows all OSHA, EPA, and site-specific safety regulations, including lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and fall protection.
  • Ensures all lighting is working and bulbs have been changed as needed; removes snow and salts sidewalks and entryway areas. Maintains clean and safe work areas throughout the facility.
  • Supports environmental compliance related to air handling, spill prevention, waste handling. Changes air filters on air compressor doors.
  • Manages environmental work orders.
  • Assists in emergency situations by taking injured employees to medical appointments.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

 

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required; technical certification or trade school preferred.

 

Experience

  • 3 to 7 years of facilities maintenance experience in a heavy manufacturing or industrial environment.

 

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Experience working in high-heat, dusty, and industrial environments preferred.
  • Highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn and apply new skills
  • Attentive to details and follows through on assigned tasks and commitments
  • Flexible and driven to meet tight deadlines, handle multiple projects and prioritize them appropriately
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, visa sponsorships are not available
  • Must have regular attendance

 

Environmental Hazards

 

Physical

  • The employee is regularly required to stand.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and use hands.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

 

Work Environment

  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations.
