Overview

Consider joining the Pennex family as a CNC Setup Engineer in Leetonia, OH.  This position will be responsible for preparing and setting up CNC machines to ensure accurate and efficient machining of parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. The CNC Setup Engineer plays a key role in selecting appropriate tools, programming CNC machines, and conducting test runs to verify optimal settings and quality output. This position collaborates with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize processes, and maintain high standards of safety and quality will be integral in this role. The expertise this position brings in CNC machine setup and programming will contribute directly to the production efficiency and overall success of our manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Machine Setup: Prepare CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines for production runs by installing and aligning fixtures, tools, and materials according to job specifications.
  • Programming: Develop and/or edit CNC programs using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software or directly at the machine controls.
  • Tooling Selection: Choose appropriate cutting tools and other accessories based on job requirements, material type, and machine capabilities.
  • Testing and Calibration: Conduct test runs to ensure that CNC programs and setups produce parts that meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to programming, tooling, machine setup, or mechanical problems that affect production.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of setups, programs, tooling changes, and production parameters for future reference and quality control.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing engineers, programmers, and operators to optimize production processes and achieve production goals.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and inspect machined parts to ensure they meet dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements while operating CNC machines and performing setup activities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement improvements in setup procedures, tooling, and machining techniques to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Design for Manufacturability: Provide feedback for inflow and outflow of material to machine that complies with safety and run rate specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, electrical, or industrial engineering or related field (preferred).
  • 2 to 5 years of experience as a CNC Setup Engineer or similar role in a manufacturing environment.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Familiar with risk assessment techniques such as FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and fault tree analysis is preferred.
  • Understanding of quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and AS9100 is preferred.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming and operating various types of CNC machines.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling selection, and material properties.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn and apply new skills.
  • Attentive to details and follows through on assigned tasks and commitments.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, visa sponsorships are not available; OPT/CPT is not eligible for this role.
  • Regular attendance required.
