Packer

Job Summary: 

Consider joining the Pennex family as a Packer in our Wellsville, PA location. The Packer visually inspects and packs extrusions utilizing bands, plastic, cardboard, paper and/or shrink wrap in various sized bundles per customer specifications.

This position is 1st shift position with rotating days working from 6am to 6pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Repetitively lifts aluminum extrusions that can be up to forty feet long and weigh up to seventy-five pounds. The packer will lift or team lift them from metal baskets and carry them to the packing conveyor.
• Gathers all materials needed for framing bundles, such as but not limited to: tape, stretch wrap cardboard, paper, banding, etc.
• Visually inspects metal while forming bundles looking for burrs, scratches, chips, gouges, dents, bubbles, die lines, etc.  Ensures all pieces meet or exceed customer specifications.  When material is questionable, the packer will need to contact foreman, supervisor or inspector for approval.
• Assembles bundles per foreman’s instructions utilizing packing materials to meet customer specifications.
• Assists with and/or operates cut back saw station and acts as saw helper at the press.  Lifts metal from racks and returns to racks after cutting.  Ensures all cuts are made to meet customer specifications.
• Records appropriate piece count or weigh count daily and additionally will record time it takes to pack a bundle.
• Moves wheeled baskets into or out of workstation.
• Carries scrap metal to scrap cart.
• Maintains a neat and orderly work area by performing general housekeeping of the work area upon completion of a repair.  May also assist with general housekeeping of the shipping area.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Education 

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

• 1 to 3 years of warehouse experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• 1 year of shipping/packaging experience is preferred.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers. 
• Ability to use measuring devices such as tape measures or rulers.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States, visa sponsorships are not available.
• Must have regular attendance.

• The employee is regularly required to stand.

• The employee is occasionally required to sit and use hands.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

• The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
