Overview

Consider joining the Pennex family as a Quality Engineer at our Leetonia, OH location.  The Quality Engineer plans, coordinates, and directs quality management system designed to ensure production of extruded and fabricated products consistent with established standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supports ISO and IATF certification and compliance activity and completes all tasks designated in the IATF quality management system (QMS). Maintain and utilize the electronic QMS software.
  • Supports Extrusion Department with Defective Material Report (DMR) materials. Monitor reports daily, inspect held material, provide disposition, generate corrective action for repeat or high volume incidents, and help facilitate timely resolution.
  • Responsible for corrective and preventive action processes, including customer interaction. Uses Lean Tools, Statistical Techniques and analytical methods to achieve effective problem solving, root cause discovery and corrective action.
  • Assists with the development of quality objectives complimentary to KRAs with all management team to achieve continuous improvement. Provide analysis of internal scrap and defect data and drive improvement through cross functional teams.
  • Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine standards, establishes Control Plans, and define process and product capability indices. Maintain statistical process control software.
  • Creates and implements inspection criteria, procedure and audit activity throughout the operation.
  • Prepares and submits PPAP documentation per customer requirements. Support new product launch in terms of developing the quality system for new manufacturing processes.
  • Investigates and resolves customer complaints and quality problems in the field and in the process. Provides effective problem-solving techniques to eliminate problems.
  • Provides technical support to all manufacturing areas, the sales team, customer service and customers as needed.
  • Works with suppliers to establish requirements and ensure the quality of all purchased parts that can affect products and services.
  • Assist in defining program control plans using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and ensure conformity. Measure parts using tools such as OGP, CMM, micrometers, gages, calipers and others.
  • Directs final inspectors engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous compliance of products to specifications.
  • Manage internal audit activities per the QMS.
  • Directs all product returned material authorization activities, data bases and reports in conjunction with the sales team, mill operations manager, customer service and accounting areas.
  • Ensures customer requirements are met as assigned by the Leetonia Leadership team, including the selection of special characteristics and other duties.
  • Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Control Plans and Inspection Plans.
  • Coaches writing standard work and maintaining documentation compliance with current operating practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S./B. A.) in a related technical field from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five to seven years of experience working with quality management systems (ISO/IATF).

 Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • A desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
  • Highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn and apply new skills
  • Automotive Manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt is preferred
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience
  • ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor / IATF 16949:2016 Auditor certification (or willingness to get certified)
  • Must have metrology experience/ demonstrated experience in APQP practices (or willingness to develop proficiency)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated competency in the use of problem-solving tools, e.g., 5 why, 8D, Ishikawa Diagram, Root Cause Analysis
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, visa sponsorships are not available

The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
