Overview

 

Job Summary: Grinds, files, sands, and polishes surfaces of extrusion die parts to specified shape and smoothness and inspects dies for conformity to prototype parts or drawings by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lifts and positions die parts on bench.
  • Studies blueprints, die models, and prototype parts, and compares them with die to ascertain contours.
  • Verifies dimensions and radii.
  • Observes pattern where surfaces make contact, and grinds and files high spots until die member conforms to specified contour.
  • Polishes die parts.
  • Assists in training new die setters and die correctors.
  • Inspects smoothness and contour conformity visually and tactually.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Education

  • Required: High school diploma or GED

Experience

  • 2 or more years of related experience and/or training

 

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is regularly required to use his or her hands to finger, handle and The employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop or crouch.
  • The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts or machines; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud requiring the use of hearing protection.
